In my childhood, I was good in studies and was a sports enthusiast. I played soccer at National Level. At the age of 5, I was initiated into meditation through my mother by Baba Hari Kishen Das Ji of Udasin Sect. By the end of first year of college at Delhi University, I was suffering from an apparently incurable rare disease called Myasthenia Gravis, a condition causing abnormal weakness of certain muscles. I was 20 then. For four years, I couldn’t move my limbs without medication. Having faith in the intrinsic healing powers of the body and mind, I did not accept to remain sick for my whole life. I found that the neuromuscular disease was psychosomatic. I researched holistic healing practices and cured myself using hatha yoga, meditation, naturopathy and J.Krishnamurthi’s teachings. The cure accompanied miraculous transcendental experiences in which I felt my body stiffness released and I was in the state of immense joy. 46 years have passed since the cure. I have never looked back.

Vidyatree Modern World College | Founded 1979 by Mr. Rakesh Kapoor

I decided to give up my father’s thriving business of industrial parts, and devote myself to human wellbeing by teaching meditation to small groups. I wanted to share my understanding of the process of living happily, peacefully and creatively. In the year 1979, I founded a K-12 school as J.Krishnamurthi Creative Life School in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) on the principles of stress free, joyful & high quality learning, which releases human creativity and builds high potential. The progressive school (now called Vidyatree Modern World College) is a flourishing institution with about 1000 students on roll. Since then, I have taken a backseat from day to day administrative responsibilities as the Founder Principal. I now focus on Mindfulness Teaching and Personal Coaching for teachers, students and their parents. During VMWC Logo 2015 for website login screenmy years at the school, we did several innovations in the areas of developing authentic intelligence and resilience in our children and teachers, and creating nurturing families through effective parenting. In 2011, I qualified with the highest grade (level 2) as a professional coach, from Columbia University. The Advanced Coaching Certificate program is jointly run by Teachers College Department of Adult Education and Columbia Business School. Over a period of one year, as a participant of Columbia Coaching Certification Program (CCCP), Cohort VI, I developed a solid understanding of the guiding principles that differentiate highly effective coaches. The program improved my knowledge in the delicate art and science of understanding people, helping them realize their potential, and live fulfilling lives. I am passionate about developing educational leaders, especially who work in international schools.

New edition to be published soon.

My book on adult transformational phenomenology ‘Total Presence of Mind’ (Rupa, India) was published in 2005 and was endorsed by His Holiness Dalai Lama. The book has a translation of Patanjali’s magnum opus on meditation, the 1600 years old Yogasutra. I am now revising the second edition, which will be published in 2016. I use my understanding of mindfulness in my coaching practice and client’s welfare. My book on leading organizations titled “The Sane Leader and his Subjects – adapted from Tao Te Ching” is also in the works.
